Public Comment Period Announced for the Draft Upper
Looking Glass Watershed Management Plan
The Clinton and
Shiawassee Conservation Districts, along with the Friends of the Looking
Glass River, are pleased to announce the release of a draft watershed
management plan for the Upper
Looking Glass
River. A public
meeting will be held on Tuesday,
September 18, 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM
at the Perry City Hall, 3rd floor meeting room, 203 W. Polly, Perry, MI.
Background
In Spring 2006, the Clinton Conservation District, in
partnership with the Friends of the Looking Glass
River, the Shiawassee
Conservation District, county drain commissioners, and other local
governments, received a grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental
Quality to develop a watershed management plan for the upper Looking Glass
River. The upper Looking Glass River watershed includes parts of
Livingston, Shiawassee, Ingham, and Clinton Counties, and 12 townships. The goal
of watershed management plan is to identify pollution sources in the
watershed and develop steps that can be taken to keep the river healthy.
The plan also identifies high-quality areas that are in need of protection
and attempts to balance the inevitable development of the watershed with protecting
forest cover and other natural features critical to the future health of
the Looking Glass River.
Electronic copies of the large draft plan will be
available after September 7, at: https://janus.pscinc.com/lookingglass/
A 30-day public comment period will run from
September 18 to October
18, 2007.
