Friends of the Looking Glass - LogJamBee `09 Report
DeWitt, DeWitt Twp and Watertown Twp. -- Saturday Sept. 26 was a perfect day for football, but 22 men and women from mid Michigan gave it up to cut and clear eight logjams from the Looking Glass River, from Wood Road in DeWitt Twp., downstream to S. Bauer Road in Eagle (normally, a 7 - 8hr float trip). Friends of the Looking Glass organize the volunteer event for the last week in Sept. every year, in an attempt to keep the river safe for kayakers and others who float the stream. A City of DeWitt DPS crew also joined in by removing a giant logjam at McGuire Park on the 24th. Two jams remain in downtown DeWitt. FLG’s annual fall float trip is scheduled for Sat. Oct. 1o, starting @ 9AM at Riverside Park in DeWitt, to Heritage Park, “behind” the Watertown Twp. Offices in Wacousta. The public is encouraged to spot their cars in Wacousta and join the 3.5 hr float, rain or shine! For more information: www.lookingglassriverfriends.org
