Public Education Event Set by Friends of the Looking Glass

DeWitt: The Friends of the Looking Glass board of directors has teamed up with Shroeder Builders to offer a public tour of Wildflower Meadows in DeWitt for it’s second public education event of the year. The Tues., Sept. 15 event is intended to demonstrate how the City of DeWitt’s Storm Water Ordinance and the unique land use designs of the housing development is benefitting its neighbors and the Looking Glass River watershed.

The tour will be led by Jon Morrison, Deputy Clinton County Drain Commissioner. Developer Keith Shroeder and DeWitt City Councilmember Sue Erickson will explain the storm water management measures taken in the design of the development. Morrison said: “This is a rain or shine event, so people should dress for the weather. We will definitely walk the development unless there is very inclement weather. In that case, Mr. Schroeder will provide meeting space in one of his on-site model homes. The focus will be on the special efforts taken to responsibly manage storm water.” He continued: “This should be of special interest to parents, middle and high school students, science teachers, government officials and anyone interested in preserving our natural world where we live.”

The public is encouraged to attend, bring their cameras and ask questions. Look for “Help Protect our River” signs in the development to mark the event start. Wildflower Meadows is located at the NW corner of Herbison and DeWitt Roads just south of the U.S. Post office and across DeWitt Road from DeWitt’s All Sports Park. The tour will start at 6PM sharp with discussions and light refreshments to follow.

A few of the past FLG public events have included a live raptor show, an explanation of the action plan to stabilize the south river bank in Riverside Park, watershed experts, and last spring, a rain barrel and water garden presentation co-sponsored with the Millennium Garden Club, that filled the meeting room at the main fire station to capacity.
