Riverside Park - Bank Stabilization Project
DeWitt: The City of DeWitt / The Riverside Park bank stabilization project design by Ann Arbor based JFNew, has been finalized and submitted for the MDEQ permit. Pending permit approvals, construction is hoped to get under way during the end of September. The project will be heavily dependent upon volunteer labor for the bank work and plantings to hold the bank.
Friends of the Looking Glass and DeWitt's Millenium Garden Club will join forces along with community groups and individuals to complete the bulk of the labor. Contact information will be forthcoming.

UPDATE(10-16-08): We have been advised by the City of DeWitt that the river bank stabilization project set for Saturday the 18th in Riverside Park is being delayed until next spring due to the lack of an MDEQ permit. That means the eroding south side bank will be subject to two more high water seasons before we have an opportunity to stabilize it and save the dozen and a half trees at risk on the bank in that area. On behalf of the FLG Board, thank you all for your continued support, and we hope we can count on you after the spring floods subside, to get this project completed - assuming the DEQ permit.
UPDATE(8-20-2008): City Admin. Brian Vick is trying to nail down a date that works for the city and other targeted groups to provide person-power to repair the eroded bank and save the remaining trees that canopy the river. It's hard to book dates before they're chosen, but several dozen volunteers are going to be needed to do the bank work, and another couple of dozen will be needed to assist the Millennium Garden Club with the new plantings to control runoff and prevent future bank erosion. Anyone interested in either, please indicate so with a return email to me with your name(s) and best phone number to reach you during the day or after work (cell phone?).
